In April, I did a session of covers with my good friend and talented singer/producer Neeta Sarl (of Polaroid 85)and drummer/percussionist Steve Barnegren. This is the first track we are releasing. It’s a cover of a tune by the up-and-coming artist Jono McCleery who is certainly worth checking out. This is ‘Stand Proud’.
Good day to you all. Aren’t we having delightful English weather? But hey, where would England be without green and pleasant lands? With my exodus of the country looming for the remaining summer, I leave you with the first of a series of covers done by myself and pianist Clement Rooney in April. This is Outkast’s ‘Roses’.
Yes, I know it’s not June. I was in the studio today with my good friend Clem Rooney recording some electronic jazz covers (coming soon). I had the great privilege of playing on a Violectra (seen below) for the session, kindly on loan to me by Moseley Violins. Violectras are quite simply, in my opinion, the finest electric violins in the world, each lovingly hand-made and personalised.
The final video from the Surrey University December 2011 session is now online! June is an amazing tune by pianist Peter James.
Here’s a classic from one of the most influential figures in the entire history of jazz. ‘In a Sentimental Mood’ by Duke Ellington.
May I present to you the first in a series of filmed recordings of my jazz trio (‘Garnish Trio‘) from December 2011, made at Surrey University. Featuring John Garner on violin, Clement Rooney on piano and James Kenny on double bass; engineered by Jack Sugden. This is Elsa by Earl Zindars.
I’ve just got back from a gruelling five-hour recording session at Surrey University, engineered by my good friend, and excellent engineer, Jack Sugden. Coming to the internet near you: Bach’s B-minor Partita & a few other miscellaneous violin-ish noises. Watch this space! It was lovely to come out of the session to find the ground coated with a fresh layer of snow – not such a nice drive though.
